Gloria Viola Cole

Williamsport, MD – Gloria Viola (Byers) Cole, 92, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. at Williamsport Nursing Home.

Gloria was born on September 24, 1931, in Hagerstown, MD to the late Charles Harvey “Unk” and Ruth Indiola (Wolford) Byers.

She was a lifelong resident of Williamsport and graduated from Williamsport High School in 1949. She was a star basketball player and was a member of the 1949 state championship team.

Gloria was a lifelong member of Williamsport United Methodist Church and sang on the choir for many years.

She was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins. She also loved spending time with her family, going out to eat, and taking rides in the country.

Gloria is survived by her three daughters Valorie Slick (Keith), Vanessa Jones (Mark), and Veronica Fitzwater (Alex); 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Donald L. Cole, and sisters Larue Stenger and Faye Abbott.

Per Gloria’s request, services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
